Holiday Cranberry Raspberry Sauce

It's that time of year again, when celebration foods come out to play.  Did you know that 20% of the world's cranberries are consumed on Thanksgiving Day?

While fresh cranberries may be harder to find during the rest of the year, they are an excellent source of anti-oxidants, have been known to prevent gum disease, boost your immune system and help reduce bad cholesterol.

While often combined with a great deal of sugar, cranberries paired with the sweetness of a raspberry can be magical and allows you to use less sugar when preparing them.  Here's our special holiday recipe that is sure to delight your Thanksgiving guests while giving your body a health boost:

Holiday Cranberry Raspberry Sauce

1 12-oz bag of fresh cranberries

1 container of fresh raspberries

1 TBSP organic vanilla bean extract

1 cup of sugar

Empty the cranberries into a colander and wash them thoroughly, disposing of any cranberries that look wilted.  Place the remaining fresh cranberries into a saucepan, along with sugar, vanilla and 2 tablespoons of water.  Cook over low heat until sugar dissolves, stirring occasionally until the cranberries are soft and popped, usually about 10 minutes.  Stir in the fresh raspberries and remove from heat.  Let cool on the stove top then chill until ready to serve.  Garnish with fresh mint leaves or a sliver of orange for color.  Enjoy!
