The Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance offered by Standard is a comprehensive program providing financial relief to your chosen beneficiary(ies) in the event of death. The life insurance benefit amount is $10,000, in the event of death, with an additional benefit payable for AD&D. All postdocs are automatically enrolled in this plan.
The Standard Life/AD&D Insurance provides the medical evacuation and repatriation benefits necessary to satisfy the J Visa Program for those postdocs holding J1 Visa status and their dependents holding J2 Visa status. The $50,000 of Medical Evacuation coverage and $25,000 of Repatriation of Remains coverage required is covered through this insurance plan.

Please complete the beneficiary section (Section 7) of the enrollment form to properly designate the individual(s) to whom your life insurance benefit should be paid in the event of death.
Aetna Short-Term Disability Insurance (STD)
The Short-Term Disability is only offered to Postdoctoral Fellows in job code 098203 and incoming Postdoctoral Scholars – Fellowship Trainees in job code 098219. All postdocs in these job codes will be automatically enrolled in this plan. Please click on Aetna Short-Term Disability Plan Benefits for more detailed information regarding this plan.

Aetna Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD)
LTD benefits begin at the end of the STD benefit cycle, meaning, your benefits begin 365 days after the onset of your disabling illness or injury. The LTD benefit provides you 66.67% of your pre-disability monthly earnings, not to exceed the plan’s maximum monthly benefit amount of $5,000, less other income sources. All postdocs are automatically enrolled in this plan.
