Visiting Scholars are eligible for the plans offered through the PRBP if your stay at the University is more than 30 days.
If you are a Visiting Scholar holding J1 Visa status and wish to waive coverage in these plans, you must provide proof of coverage that meets the J1 Visa medical insurance requirements. Please either FAX or email copy of your insurance declaration page that lists your exact coverage per the requirements below to firstname.lastname@example.org or FAX 949-583-2929. Please Note: This insurance declaration page must be in English.
Those requirements are:
- $100,000 per accident/illness in medical coverage
- A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness
- Coinsurance that does not exceed 25%
- A waiting period for pre-existing conditions not to exceed 6 months
All Visiting Scholars are automatically enrolled in the Standard Insurance Company Life/AD&D Insurance Plan which provides the new Department of State requirement of Medical Evacuation coverage of $50,000 and Repatriation of Remains Coverage of $25,000 required for J-1 Visa holders.
Medical Evacuation and Repatriation Insurance for Postdocs Holding J-1 Visa Status and Their Dependents with J-2 Visa Status
The Standard Insurance Life/AD&D Insurance offered through the PRBP provides both postdocs and their dependents the medical evacuation and repatriation benefits necessary to satisfy the J Visa Program. It is not necessary to purchase supplemental insurance to satisfy the J-1 and J-2 Visa requirements.
The Standard life insurance program offers both J-1 and J-2 visa holders the newly required insurance coverage of Medical Evacuation of $50,000 and $25,000 of Repatriation of Remains.
