Newly Appointed Postdocs Enrolling for the First Time or
Postdocs Making Changes to their Current Enrollment
You may enroll in the Postdoctoral Scholar Benefits Plan (PSBP) through one of two methods depending on your individual situation. Please read the following questions very carefully and click the appropriate link for your enrollment:
Are you enrolling in PSBP for the first time, but you do not have a Social Security Number yet?
Are you enrolling your spouse/domestic partner in the PSBP and s/he does not have a Social Security Number?
Are you already enrolled in PSBP but want to make a change, such as add a newborn, add your newly eligible spouse/domestic partner or adopted child? (Note that children do not need Social Security numbers). In other words, this is not your initial enrollment.
Is it past your 31-day Period of Initial Eligibility (PIE)?
- Were you recently a graduate student at a UC campus?
- Are you transferring from one campus to another, or transferring from a faculty/staff position to a postdoc eligible position?*
- Were you ever enrolled in any other UC sponsored plan?
- Are you opting out of coverage?
*Please note, if you are transferring from one department to another, you are not eligible to make plan changes or add dependents unless there was a qualifying life event. However, you should have your new department notify your previous department, in writing, when the transfer has been made in the payroll system.
