The Postdoctoral Scholar Benefits Plan offers you a choice between two medical plans: The Health Net HMO Plan or the Health Net PPO Plan. Both plans offer comprehensive coverage, all benefits being detailed on the links mentioned below.
Preventive Care Now Covered at $0 Copay!
Both plans incorporate features necessary to accommodate Health Care Reform. Both the HMO and PPO plans offer preventive services at $0 copay...all members will no longer be paying the $10 on HMO and $20 on PPO for periodic health evaluations including, but not limited to, the following:
- Annual preventive physical examinations
- Preventive x-ray/lab tests
- Preventive vision and hearing screening examinations
- Woman's preventive care services including the well-woman exam and FDA approved contraceptive methods
- Well baby care
Obtain Medical Advice Online From a Doctor - MDLIVE by Health Net
MDLIVE has been selected by Health Net to provide you with access to primary care physicians and pediatricians by secure video, phone or email. These consultations are provided at no charge. MDLIVE is easy to access and available on your schedule 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. You can register online at mdlive.com/healthnetuc, or by phone at 1-888-632-2738. The service complies with all confidentiality and privacy regulations.

The Health Net HMO and PPO Medical Plans
For detailed benefit summaries of both plans, please click on HMO Plan and PPO Plan to access the new benefit summaries for the new plan year. You will have access to Summaries of Benefits and Coverage as required by Health Care Reform, as well as links to details on mental health, prescription and chiropractic benefits. A provider directory specific to each plan is also available under these links.
If you are a postdoctoral scholar working out-of-state, your option for enrollment is the Out-of-State PPO Plan. Please click on the Out-of-State PPO Plan to access the new benefit summary for the new plan year or to access the same type of information about the plan as included in the link above for the PPO plan.

The Summary Plan Description is a comprehensive document that provides details about your plan benefits and coverage. It describes how to get medical care, what health services are covered and not covered, and what portion of the health care costs you will be required to pay.
