Cigna Dental Plans for Academic Year 2015/2016
Garnett-Powers & Associates is pleased to offer the Northwestern University Student Dental Plan. As an undergraduate or graduate student at Northwestern University, you may choose to enroll in the Voluntary Dental HMO (DHMO) or the Voluntary Dental PPO, both offered through Cigna, an internationally recognized medical, life and dental plan provider. The dental plans offer a breadth of coverage. You do not need to be a participant in the Aetna Medical Student Plan to participate in this dental plan. The current plan year began September 1, 2015 and ends August 31, 2016.
Open enrollment is now closed. The open enrollment period for this student dental program was August 10th – September 1st, 2015. If you did not enroll during that time, you are not eligible for the program until next year’s open enrollment for the new academic year of 2016/2017, unless you have a qualifying life event, such as marriage, birth or adoption of a child, loss of other coverage or divorce.
Newly Enrolled Northwestern University Students
If you are a newly enrolled student at the University, you may join during one of the following quarterly open enrollment periods*:
Winter Quarter: January 18 – February 8, 2016
Spring Quarter: March 21 – April 11, 2016
Summer Quarter – June 17 – July 8 2016
*Only students who are new to Northwestern University as of that quarter may apply.
The Voluntary Cigna Dental DHMO Plan
The Cigna DHMO offers comprehensive dental coverage with no annual deductible or annual dollar maximums. Consultations,* office visits,* oral evaluations,* cleanings*(also known as 'prophylaxis') and x-rays*are covered at no-charge. If you enroll in the DHMO, you will need to choose a Primary Care Dentist. For more detailed information on this plan, please click on Voluntary DHMO Plan and Rates and then the DHMO G1-09 Patient Charge Schedule.
The Voluntary Cigna Dental PPO Plan
This plan offers you the option of seeking services from an in-network or out-of-network dentist. It is important to understand that the Dental PPO Plan is not as comprehensive as the DHMO plan in that there are limits to the dollar amount of services provided on an annual basis: $1,000 in-network and $500 out-of-network. The plan does provide 100% coverage with no co-pays for in-network diagnostic and preventive services such as oral exams, cleanings and routine X-rays, however the deductible does apply to both in-network and out-of-network services. Co-insurance levels can change between in and out-of-network services. Please click on the PPO Summary of Benefits to view a schedule of benefits and services offered by this plan.
Unlike the DHMO Plan, it is not necessary to choose a Primary Care Dentist during enrollment. You choose your preferred provider when you need to seek service. This plan offers you the flexibility of seeing a dentist either in-network by choosing a dentist in the provider directory, or you may see a dentist of your choice out-of-network. Choosing a dentist within the Cigna provider directory will allow you to pay lower costs than if you seek services from a dentist not listed in the directory. Please click on Voluntary PPO Plan and Rates for more details.
* There are frequency limitations regarding diagnostic and preventive services that may be accessed during any 12 consecutive month period. Please consult the Patient Charge Schedule for further details.
